About Plain Label

Plain Label collects published test results and safety warnings about everyday products and puts them in plain language for parents, with safer alternatives. It is run by Doctor Soni Inc., based in Ontario, Canada. Plain Label is independent and is not affiliated with Health Canada or any government agency.

Where the facts come from

Every finding is based on published sources: government agencies such as Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the US FDA, peer-reviewed studies, and independent testing organizations. Each page links to its sources so you can check them yourself. We don't run our own lab tests.

How verdicts are decided

Avoid A documented risk of serious harm, usually backed by a government warning. We recommend not having it around children.

Caution Testing has found a real problem in some products. Worth acting on, usually by choosing a safer option.

Fine The risk is low, sometimes with a simple check to keep it that way.

A verdict describes what the cited tests found at the time. It doesn't mean every product in a category, or every batch of a named brand, is affected. Products and formulas change, so check the "last checked" date.

Corrections

If you find an error, or you represent a company with newer test results, email corrections@doctorsoni.ca. We review every report and update pages when the evidence changes.
