Researchers including a University of Toronto co-author tested stain-resistant school uniforms from nine popular brands. All of them contained PFAS, often at levels similar to outdoor gear. Kids wear uniforms against their skin for hours a day, for years.
The evidence
A 2022 peer-reviewed study in Environmental Science & Technology tested stain-resistant uniforms from nine brands sold in North America. Every uniform contained PFAS, mostly fluorotelomer alcohols, at levels comparable to outdoor clothing.[1]
